En el pasado mes de marzo se conmemoraron 100 años del nacimiento de K.-O. Apel (1922-2017). Si no todos, muchos de nosotros hemos conocido personalmente a Karl-Otto Apel y hemos podido participar de sus seminarios y conferencias, así como entablar con él intensos y extensos diálogos filosóficos. Si no todos, muchos de nosotros hemos podido comprobar la intensidad con que defendía sus ideas, y su compromiso en la búsqueda de la verdad. Si no todos, muchos de nosotros hemos abrevado en su pensamiento y hemos contribuido a difundir su obra filosófica. Los críticos de K.-O. Apel han resaltado luces y sombras de su pensamiento filosófico. Mientras que las ideas relacionadas con la comunicación, la reflexión estricta y la relevancia del lenguaje en filosofía suelen ser apreciados como rasgos distintivos de sus reflexiones filosóficas y parte de la luz propia de su pensamiento, otros conceptos, como los de fundamentación última, autocontradicción performativa y comunidad ideal de comunicación han sido a menudo malinterpretados o tergiversados, y por ello han sido considerados por muchos críticos como el lado oscuro de la luna. Lo original de la filosofía de Apel es, sin embargo, que en su territorio filosófico nunca se pone el sol: el pensamiento filosófico de Apel es tan extenso y fructífero que en su amplia gama de reflexiones filosóficas siempre hay alguna parte en que es de día. Con esta breve conmemoración, evocamos con gratitud la figura de un gran maestro de la comunicación y del pensamiento crítico, que supo iluminar filosóficamente los múltiples problemas teóricos y prácticos de su época, y que en su obra filosófica nos dejó una brújula para pensar los complejos desafíos ético-filosóficos actuales, superar disensos y conflictos mediante el diálogo orientado al consenso, y para hacer camino, de forma solidaria y corresponsable, hacia una convivencia global más justa y pacífica.

Im vergangenen März jährte sich der Geburtstag von K.-O. Apel (1922-2017). Wenn auch nicht alle, so haben doch viele von uns Karl-Otto Apel persönlich gekannt und konnten an seinen Seminaren und Vorlesungen teilnehmen sowie intensive und ausführliche philosophische Gespräche mit ihm führen. Wenn auch nicht alle, so konnten doch viele von uns miterleben, mit welcher Intensität er seine Ideen verteidigte und wie sehr er sich für die Suche nach der Wahrheit einsetzte. Wenn auch nicht alle, so haben doch viele von uns aus seinem Denken geschöpft und zur Verbreitung seines philosophischen Werks beigetragen. Die Kritiker von Karl-Otto Apel haben sowohl Licht als auch Schatten seines philosophischen Denkens hervorgehoben. Während Ideen, die sich auf die Relevanz von Sprache, Kommunikation und radikale Reflexion beziehen, oft als positive Unterscheidungsmerkmale seiner philosophischen Überlegungen und als Teil des Lichtes seines Denkens gewürdigt werden, sind andere Konzepte wie transzendentales Apriori, ideale Kommunikationsgemeinschaft, Letztbegründung und performativer Selbstwiderspruch oft missverstanden oder falsch dargestellt worden und wurden daher von vielen Kritikern als die dunkle Seite des Mondes betrachtet. Das Originelle an Karl-Otto Apels Philosophie ist jedoch, dass die Sonne auf seinem philosophischen Territorium nie untergeht: Karl-Otto Apels philosophisches Denken ist so umfangreich und fruchtbar, dass es in seinem breiten Spektrum philosophischer Überlegungen immer einen Ort gibt, an dem es hell ist. Anlässlich seines hundertsten Geburtstages erinnern wir uns mit Dankbarkeit an einen großen Meister der Kommunikation und des kritischen Denkens, der es verstand, die vielfältigen theoretischen und praktischen Probleme seiner Zeit philosophisch zu beleuchten, und der uns mit seinem philosophischen Werk einen Kompass hinterlassen hat, der uns in diesen Zeiten komplexer philosophischer Herausforderungen, in denen ein konsensorientierter Dialog schwierig ist und das Denken und Handeln im Hinblick auf ein vernünftiges Miteinander zögerlich ist, den Weg weist.
COMMEMORATING THE 100TH BIRTHDAY OF KARL-OTTO APEL Opening of the 2022 Colloquium on Discourse Ethics (Prof. Dr. Dorando J. Michelini)
This past March marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of K.-O. Apel (1922-2017). If not all of us, many of us knew Karl-Otto Apel personally and were able to participate in his seminars and lectures as well as have intense and detailed philosophical conversations with him. If not all, many of us were able to witness the intensity with which he defended his ideas and his commitment to the search for truth. If not all, many of us have drawn from his thinking and contributed to the dissemination of his philosophical work. Critics of Karl-Otto Apel have highlighted both lights and shadows of his philosophical thought. While ideas related to the relevance of language, communication, and strict reflection are often appreciated as positive distinguishing features of his philosophical thought and as part of the light of his thought, other concepts such as transcendental a priori, ideal community of communication, ultimate foundation and performative self-contradiction have often been misunderstood or misrepresented and have thus been considered by many critics as the dark side of the moon. The original thing about Karl-Otto Apel's philosophy, however, is that the sun never sets on his philosophical territory: Karl-Otto Apel's philosophical thought is so extensive and fruitful that there is always a place where it is bright in his broad spectrum of philosophical thought. On the occasion of his centenary, we remember with gratitude a great master of communication and critical thinking who knew how to shed philosophical light on the manifold theoretical and practical problems of his time and who, with his philosophical work, has left us a compass to guide us in these times of complex philosophical challenges, when consensus-oriented dialogue is difficult and thought and action are hesitant with regard to reasonable coexistence.
